Knowing just who to speak to can be confusing so the following information has been put together to help signpost parents/carers to the right service.

We know that every service is stretched at the moment so please ensure you’ve been through the Shropshire/Powys/Other local authority graduated response with your school before you request a referral. This is also known as the assess, plan, do, review process and includes support for your child in school to help meet their needs at an early stage.

It may be that you need to request an assessment with an occupational therapist, speech & language therapist or a mental health professional, rather than an educational psychologist. Of course, please always check that a professional is appropriately qualified and regulated before making any appointments.

Please remember that a formal diagnosis does not lead to any additional funding or support for schools.
